You can see the rest of this week's Jump into Vintage posts here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4, Day 5, Day 6
As promised....drum roll please...the Grand Finale to this week's endeavors!
TaDa! I found this lovely rayon blend dress at the thrift store for $1.00! The hat came from a different thrift store for $5.00, and the barely worn shoes came from yet another thrift store for $4.00. They're all the same shade of burgandy AND they fit me perfectly!!!
My lipstick is Cinnamon Twist from Mary Kay. It's my all time favorite color! I added a vintage gold bow brooch from my collection. The netting on the hat is original and doesn't have a tear or hole anywhere.
I'm just in love with this ensemble!!!
The entire hat is in pristine condition, including the feathers. I don't know if this is an actual vintage hat someone had stored properly or a reproduction, but I couldn't pass it up.
Now for the nitty gritty...The dress is from the 80's, and is in perfect condition. It originally had a lace collar and gold & pearl plastic buttons.
Everybody who know me knows I'm a sucker for lace, but I felt the lace really screamed 80's. I haven't seen much lace at the collar on vintage styles. Otherwise, this dress has a vintage feel with square shoulders, straight sleeves, knee length skirt, and v neck. I opened the seams and removed the collar, then just top stitched the seams closed.
The buttons were just genuinely awful for ANY decade, but they're also iconic 80's. The photo just doesn't do them justice for the severity of their existence.
You can, however, see the dainty print in the photos. I replaced the plastic buttons with vintage mother of pearl shell buttons from my stash. You can't see the detail and texture of the button in the photo, but they all have a slightly different thickness and sheen, even though they're the same size and style, and match the creamy white flowers on the dress.
Then there are the shoes! Imelda Marcos I am NOT, but I do love a comfortable, stylish, low heeled shoe. These fit me perfectly and looked nearly new. They're leather and suede with a 1/2" wedge heel.
I'm tickled pink...er burgandy...with these amazing finds. I've spent countless hours scouring the countryside for the perfect shoe or accessory without luck, but this one came together in record time! And only cost a whopping $10! Speaking of cost, if I add today's attire to Day 5's totals, I've only spent $42.25 to Jump into Vintage. Thank you for following along. I'll continue updating the blog with vintage DIY, great finds, sewing & hairstyle adventures, and more. I've got a little vintage camper to fix up so those endeavors will be posted here too. (Miss H calls it the Hobo House.)
I'll leave you with one last shot of moi!
TaTa for now.
Oh, you're really cookin' with gas now, and for so little lettuce! Love those stompers! The hat really highlights those amazing peepers too! What a spiffy dish!
