Merry Christmas!

Luke 2:1-20

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

Vintage Christmas DIY

This week, I'm sharing some vintage Christmas DIY projects I've pinned on Pinterest.  My mom collected vintage Christmas goodies before they were called "vintage", with a hefty price tag.  Those days it was just called old junk. Seeing vintage Christmas ornaments, plastic figurines, glittery paper mache snowmen, vintage artwork, and holly strewn tablecloths brings back a lot of memories!

The pretty gingerbread house artwork above came from Free Pretty Things For You.  Click on the pictures below to go to each DIY web page. (Links will open in a new window.)

My Vintage Favorites

I've been stalking various vintage inspired blogs, Facebook groups, and other corners of the internet.  Some just aren't my style, but like every excavation there will be more rocks than gems. A few are truly kindred spirits!  I thought I'd share my favorites here, in no particular order...

The Memory Budget

I get a lot of questions about how we afford to go on so many vacations.  So I thought I'd share our method regarding the finances and philosophies behind it.  We call it the Memory Budget.

Jump into Vintage Day 6

I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our men and women serving in the armed forces! Your sacrifices of family time, hard work, and in some cases health, is very much appreciated.

Today was 30's inspired hair, by default.

Jump into Vintage Day 5

It's my day off work. I'm cleaning, working on May's house projects, wet setting my hair, and staying in my pj's all day!  I thought I'd share pictures of last week's vintage week prep thrift store finds. I stopped at 4 thrift stores and 2 yard sales over the course of last week in preparation for my jump into vintage style.

Jump into Vintage Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of my vintage journey!

Jump into Vintage Day 3

Today I wore my favorite brown floral skirt, red blouse, brown cardigan, and brown shoes.

Jump into Vintage Day 1

I must admit, I've gone overboard for vintage.  Specifically the 1940's.  Well, I've always loved all things Victorian, 1930's, 40's, and 50's but now I'm interested in spending some time and effort to emulate a vintage inspired look on a regular basis, and on a tight budget. I'm going to Jump into Vintage every day this week!

Big Changes on a Tiny Budget

The budget...your best friend, your worst enemy.

We custom built our home, but ran into a VERY expensive snag during construction so a lot of minor details were scrapped.  It's been 3 years and I need to finish things up.  I'm going to work on the house project over the summer of 2016.  I must note here that I have a lot of materials to work with, and much of my work will be deciding what to keep and what to send to the thrift store. I also work part time. Time is a precious commodity!
